I had this WAY crazy dream last night. But to bring you up to speed, I'd better fill you in on a bit of history. When I was in High School, my nickname was "Buffy" a la the movie. When the show started, the trend resumed. To my friends, I was Buffy and I slayed things (mostly trees) and I could jump a lot. Then came Faith. My image changed. Lots of leather, vinyl and eyeliner. Then I began hearing the end 'o season rumours. And I had this
dream last night.
-
I come home. Willow, Xander and Buffy are lounging around my living room. Apparently, this is normal. Buffy mentions something about having to vaccinate ourselves against some bizarre demon power thing. She sticks a needle in Willow’s arm. We can only take the vaccination one at a time, so that the others can keep an eye on the one being vaccinated, but the stuff only takes about five minutes to run it’s course. Now, I’m curious about what the stuff
does to you for five minutes.
Suddenly Willow becomes mean. Not violent, just bitchy. She makes comments about Buffy being nothing but a "whore" and how Xander is a "f*ckup". I mention that this must be the "Cordy" vaccination. Buffy laughs.
I slip into my bedroom to put some stuff away. I find sixty bucks sitting on the shelf. I turn to see Faith standing in my room. I quietly shut the door and ask her what she’s doing there.
"I thought I could help you out while I still can," she says.
"You know you shouldn’t be here," I reply, "but thanks."
"I’m going to miss you, you know." It’s almost like she’s going to cry. She heads for the window.
I go back out into the living room. Xander makes a nasty comment about my shoes. I look at Buffy. She nods. He’s being vaccinated. Cranky Xander is pretty funny. Buffy gets up and approaches me.
She put her hand on my shoulder. "I just wanted to let you know, it’s good to have you back."
"Thanks, Buff."
We watch Xander change from sardonic back to plain old sarcastic.
Buffy’s turn. She looks at all of us.
"Now, remember, anything I say, I don’t mean."
We all chuckle. She takes the shot. With in seconds, she’s up in my face, telling me how I should never have left her for Faith, how I had no guts, I was just a lemming. I knew she didn’t mean any of it, but I had to get out of the line of fire. Xander understood and made Buffy focus on him by calling her "The Lamest Slayer, Ever".
I ducked back into my bedroom. I realize that my bed is a mess, the blankets all over the floor. Funny, I don’t remember it being that way when I was in there before. I hear Buffy shout something vulgar about me and then the front door slams. I reach for the pile of blankets, when someone from inside the pile grabs me. It’s Faith.
"Please, don’t leave me. Stay. We can take over the world together. You and me. I don’t want to die."
I’m torn. Nothing’s fine. I try to get out of Faith’s grasp on my arm, but I can’t. "Faith, you know I would, if I could, but it has to be done. Joss has spoken."
The bedroom door flies open. It’s Buffy. She pulls Faith’s hand off my arm.
"Leave, Faith. Now." Wow, Buffy’s pissed, and it’s not the vaccination.
Faith climbs out the window, knowing what will be, will be. I know she doesn’t want to go. I know she’s not really evil. I know it’s all just the bidding of Joss.
"I’ll, uh, see you." But I know I won’t.
She gives me a sad smile and says, "Five by five."
I look at Buffy. She tells me it’ll all be okay. That things will go back to the way they were. No soapy stuff, no "evil" slayers, just daily sarcasm and campy fun.
"You promise?" I ask.
"I promise."
And then I felt the needle in my arm.
